WHY SOY WAX?

Soy wax is completely free of any animal products, making it 100% vegan. Additionally, soy wax is biodegradable, renewable, and CO2 neutral, which makes it significantly more environmentally friendly compared to paraffin wax, a common material used for making scented candles that is derived from petroleum.

One of the notable benefits of soy wax is its clean burning properties. It produces little to no soot, contributing to better air quality and reducing the risk of respiratory issues. This is in stark contrast to paraffin wax candles, which can release harmful chemicals like toluene and benzene into the air when burned.

Moreover, soy wax has a higher density, allowing it to burn slower than paraffin wax. This means that soy wax candles have a longer burn time, making them more cost-effective and reducing the frequency of replacements.
In addition, soy wax holds scents better and releases them gradually, providing a more pleasant and enduring fragrance experience.

Did you know that about 75% of all candles are made from paraffin wax? Paraffin wax is a byproduct of lubricating oil production, i.e., a petroleum product. Therefore, its carbon footprint is not environmentally friendly.

HOW IS SOY WAX OBTAINED?

Soy wax is derived from soybeans. The process begins with the extraction of oil from the beans. This oil is then hydrogenated, which involves treating it under high pressure and temperatures up to 300 °C. During hydrogenation, the fatty acids in the soybean oil are saturated, turning the liquid oil into a solid form, known as soy wax. Afterward, the solidified wax is broken down into soy flakes for further use in candle making and other applications.

80% of the yield from soy wax plantations, for which rainforests are cleared, is used in agriculture as animal feed.
